Part-Trained Learner Guide
This guide is for people who have had driving lessons or practice before.
It helps you understand where you are now, and what learning usually focuses on next.

Mr Pass - Your guide
This page will help you make sense of where you’re up to, and how learning normally continues.
Who this guide is for
You are a part-trained learner if:
You have had driving lessons before, or
You have practised driving but did not finish learning, or
It has been a while since your last lesson
Many learners fall into this category.
What learning looks like at this stage
At this stage, learning focuses on building consistency and confidence.
Typically:
Your current skills are assessed.
Gaps are identified and worked on
Lessons are planned around what you need, not what you’ve already done
There is no need to start from the beginning again.
How progress usually works
Progress for part-trained learners is often uneven at first. Some skills may feel comfortable, while others need more practice. This is normal, especially after a break from lessons.

Mr Pass - Your guide
It’s common to be stronger in some areas than others. That’s part of learning.
What you are working towards
At this stage, learners usually work towards:
Driving safely and consistently
Using observation and planning ahead
Making decisions without prompts
Driving to test standard in different situations
These are the areas assessed during the practical driving test.

Mr Pass - Your guide
Learning at this stage is about bringing everything together, not rushing ahead.
What happens next
When you book lessons, your instructor will check your current level, identify any areas that need work, and plan lessons around where you are now. There is no fixed lesson plan.
